I suspect the bad experience was on vehicles sitting for long time with batteries still connected?
I have dual batteries vehicles for almost 30 years and never had the problem with batteries on daily drivers. Than I always pull the clamp on vehicle that will not run for over a week.
For some time on my F250 I paired old deep cycle battery with newer automotive battery just fine.
Than as I mention above, I had 2 new batteries in my F350 Powerstroke and they show different voltage after a year.
Costco gave my full cash refund.
