Yeah and change the spark plugs, adjusting the points every 20-30,000 miles ;)
Batteries can be tricky animals. Suppose heat kills them fast, yet our cars see 100F quite often, when on trips to Vegas parking lots can have 140F, yet we had several batteries lasting 13 years.
Funny part - years ago we had "famous" Oldsmobile 5l diesel.
When the engine died again, we junk the wagon and when one battery went to our Volvo, the other was hook up to maintainer on the shelf.
They were 5-years batteries and one in Volvo got badly beaten when wife forgot to turn the headlights off. One time she made it home Saturday 3PM and it wasn't till Sunday 10AM I noticed dead and still shorten battery.
I jumped it at the time (like I did jump it several times before in front of Department Stories) and the battery gave us over 8 years of service.
The one on shelf with maintainer died on year 6.
Than cars make difference. We had left our different Mercedes sitting and armed for 5 weeks and they always start on their own power.
2 huge batteries in my F350 get weaker after a week with no alarm.
