- NWnativeExplorerLooks like my 2 month old F150 will be on the trading block with the new engine coming out. Not really :) - I too would like to retire one of these day. After getting a new truck every couple of years, I am hoping to get at least 8 years or 100k out of this one before buying my 'retirement truck'. This new engine is basically 'all new' which worries me some anyway. And...with TWO fuel systems...what could possibly go wrong? Love to see the innovation but....going to sit back for the next several years and enjoy what I have now. I was always skeptical of the ecoboost engines but, they are fairly well tested and proven now so....i went out and got one (actually 2 if you count my DW's car).

I think it's funny they felt the need to completely redesign a motor that is still fairly young and new and suppose to be indestructible. I like the transmission though. I would love to see a ten speed in the HD line ups with a 2 speed rear axle option.
Take a truck like my 2013 Ram. It would be the cat's meow if I could have 3.42:1 for my everyday ventures and then when I hook to my rig push a button and have 4.11:1.
Not sure why you consider making improvements on an engine that has been vehicles for over decade is funny. I would think it would be more funny or odd for a manufacturer in this technology driven age to wait for the competition to pass them and react.
The 3.5 Ecoboost has been in the F150 towing heavy loads (for a 1/2 ton series truck) for decades? Huh, new one for me. I thought it was an all new engine and technology for the F150.
The engine has been around since 2007/2008 in test vehicles and formally introduced around 2009. Now if you want to take issue on the history in the F150 that is your prerogative. The comment seemed more like a passive aggressive dig. If not I apologize. From the description it is clear this is a move to give Ford options to do other things with the platform in the future and not just run the current design into the ground as technology changes. - carringbExplorer

Redesign isn't exclusively for the F150. In other vehicles it will be be pushing 600 HP. In the Raptor, its expected to do 450 HP! - ROBERTSUNRUSExplorer

:) Hi, I believe that he said for over a decade, which could mean eleven years. "for decades? Huh, new one for me." This engine started in the Taurus before the F-150. - transamz9Explorer

I'm not sure I'd want to get in on the first model year, but this should improve on what I think is already the best half ton setup on the market. The 3.5 is an impressive little engine.
As someone that keeps their vehicles a long time I agree. But the nice thing with leasing it takes a lot of the risk out of the transaction that we did not enjoy before leasing became popular. The people that like the newest and greatest can lease and do the testing for us long timers. - IdaDExplorerI'm not sure I'd want to get in on the first model year, but this should improve on what I think is already the best half ton setup on the market. - horton333ExplorerThe increased compression ratio and some of those other refinements are actually significant enough to merit the update, and reading between the lines with them beefing up the lower end there is more power to come once they prove in the new engine (likely at an intentionally reduced capacity).
- alboyExplorerLooks like a whole lot more power coming as required to keep bragging rights, pretty impressive.
