Securing camper while in storage

Im going to be storing our camper at a storage lot for a little bit. Its a secured gated lot, with a code to enter the lot. But iam curious what would be stopping someone from loading up my camper, it just has manual happi jacks so all you would need is the crank and a camper ready truck, anything I can do to secure it while its there?

    I agree.

We get lots of reports of break-ins, but not theft of the entire camper. Leave it unlocked. If they break in, it's just more damage.
  • I suppose a piece of pipe or even a 2 x 4 anchored across the front (so it blocked the slots where the truck sides would slide) would at least slow down the honest thieves? Or (better/easier idea): a taut piece of chain from one tiedown point, under the bottom, and back up to the opposite tiedown point?

And a big screwdriver and the lock becomes useless no matter what it is keyed.
  • I suppose if you wanted to, you could put the TC on a support structure and remove the jacks.
Padlocks and cables from the tie down anchor points to something secure, utility pole or fence post, etc.
Insurance and no personal items are your best bet.

  • I use an over the tongue lock. Sure it will only delay someone who really want to steal my property but it doesn't hurt if I have to show the insurance company due diligence and it costs $20 or so.
  • Those locks will only keep the honest people out. If someone wants it bad enough it'll be gone. Make sure you don't leave any valuables in it. Make sure insurance is paid up. That's about all you can do.
