Wagons are a great option. Even better if you get an AWD version, at least where we live. There are few very models available, though, and they're all pretty limited in interior space.
That is the reason why I ended up with a sedan 328d instead of the wagon 328d. The wagons were really rare and hard to find when I was looking for a new commuter vehicle. They also did not provide that much more space than the sedan so I ended up going the sedan route after a month of not finding a CPO wagon. The sedan is still fun to drive and has more than plenty of space for how I use it though.
