Thanks everyone for your advice. I really appreciate hearing from an outside perspective. I'll go with selling it as-is. I'm going to give it a good cleaning this weekend and take some photos for a listing. I know he's got the title someplace, so he'll just have to dig it up.
I understand why many of you are saying "just ditch it" or "give him a hard cutoff". Even so, I'm going to help him sell it if I can. Without going into anything personal, this guy has earned the slack I'm giving him by being a better than decent friend in past emergencies and bad times. He's disorganized as heck, but this annoyance is peanuts in the long game of our lives.
If I can't get someone to buy it off me, I'll eventually reduce it to free and get it hauled away, but I'll give it a decent try first.
