Sending unit and gauge for auxiliary tank

I have a great setup in my 2016 Duramax. I have a 60 gallon RDS 72771 tank, a small fuel pump and separate electric solenoid valve under the bed, and a small 16 A switch with green for diesel light mounted in the stock overhead console, all ignition switch powered. Works perfectly, giving me 96 gallons of capacity.

I do not automatically gravity feed as some do. I need to turn on the switch, so I need to be careful not to run it dry to not damage my fuel pump.

I would like to add a fuel gauge inside the cab for the aux tank in the bed. Any recommendations for a nice low profile gauge and it's sending unit? There are not too many choices that I have found.

Thanks Frank in Austin

Try J C Whitney. They used to have gauges and sending units in different ohm applications. You will have to figure out the best place for the sender in the tank and how to mount it. A 2 position switch properly wired and use the truck gauge and control the solenoid at the same time.

Thanks. I'll do that. I'd like a low profile gauge if I can find one. I'm not sure I want to bring the new truck's dash gauges in on this! Too many interrelated systems these days.

  • Have you talked to RDS ? Maybe they can point you in the right direction.
