Like I stated before - if you can't come out with a significant cushion calculating the weights using gross numbers - not guesses as to the amount of weight you will be loading, then if your concerned about safety, then weigh your loaded truck.
JMO - do what you like, or follow the advice that is easier to follow.
I'd love to believe our truck can to a 7000+ lb trailer and not exceed payload capacity because I really want the trailer we'd initially picked. But the right thing is usually the more painful alternative, so sadly it ain't gonna happen.
Exactly. We want a safety cushion. We are looking at trailers with maximum loaded capacities that result in a tongue weight of around 800 to 900 pounds. That way we won't be worried.
