Shadow Cruiser change to torsion flex?

Hi All....we downsized to a shadow cruiser 22'. The leaf spring suspension on this approx 4000+# TT seems to be way too stiff. I am considering installing dexter torsion flex axles as our first TT was equipped with them and I was very happy with their advantages. Tire wear on the shadow cruiser is premature and uneven. I can do an axle, wheel (not a alloy wheel fan) and tire change for a cost of about 1500.00. We plan on keeping this trailer for 2 - 4 more years and I feel this move would be worth it. I would do the install of the torsion flex axles.

Any thoughts, input, suggestions on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Mike
  • I am assuming that this is a double axle trailer.

Rather than go to the cost and trouble of changing out a whole axle you may may be able to get nearly the same benefit from an EZ Flex or TrailAir

I have a Fun Finder which is made by the same company and it has a TrailAir. If you have a Lippert frame then that would probably be a bolt on.

My friends rode in the trailer for a couple of miles and said it was incredibly smooth. We never find anything out of place.
  • If the trailer is prematurely wearing tires, there is a problem, and it's not specifically related to whether it's a leaf spring design vs a torflex design.
I currently am running four trailers. Two have torflex, and two have leaf springs. None of the trailers are wearing their tires out in abnormal patterns.
You might want to take your trailer to a "real" trailer shop ( not the RV dealer ) that specializes in working on trailers. They can evaluate and recommend ( alignment ? ) a fix.
    Best of luck with it.
  • Both of my Boat Trailers have Torsion Axles. There has never been a squeak out of either trailer. Given the option it would be Torsion every time. Smooth, quiet, fewer moving parts. Win-Win
