Shocker hitch for trailers

http://shockerhitch.com/Receiver_Hitch.php

First time I saw one of these was today. Interesting set up. A little air bag set up in a teeter totter fashion for the hitch seems like a good idea.

But IMO won't do anything for weight distribution and no way to hook it up. Not sure I would want 825 pounds of tongue weight without weight distribution bars.

I think it would be a benefit for bridge transitions when going freeway speeds, but little other benefit I can think of.

What is your suggestion? What am I missing? Any comments?

(I have nothing to do with the company. Matter of fact I'm not even sure this is a good idea, depending on tongue weight and your receiver tube spec's)
  • My brother has a receiver hitch that has a rubber mount built inside of it that allows for a couple of inches of forward / backward movement. Not as nice the ones you have listed but, a lot cheaper and lighter.

JMO, but I think you'd be better off putting the $$ towards installing shocks on your TT. We installed them on our TT and it makes a big reduction in the up/down motion at the coupler/ball and greatly improves ride comfort in the truck.

shocks help. but the airsafe hitch really makes a much bigger improvement. let's the trailer move w/o transferring impact to the TV.

But, as I mentioned, given the cost unless you travel a lot and travel on road with frost heaves and/or back concrete expansion jointsm, potholes etc. it's probably not worth the expense for many users.

  • I saw one used on Craigslist a few years back for $200. Wish I would have bought it.. Haven't seen a used once since.

Air Safe Hitch. Similar product, but can be used with a WD hitch.

yup AND it works. Amazing improvement in TV ride on frost heaves and concrete expansion joints.

BUT unless you have a fairly heavy trailer and longer trailer AND travel a lot, it's probably not worth the $$$

We've had one for 5 years now and wouldn't be without it.

But then we go all over the country and put about 6K miles/year on the trailer.
  • We use one. While pulling our boat with the DP the surge brake actuator would take a real beating. I had already replaced 2 actuators when I found the shocker hitch. No problems since.

Seems to me like a $400 solution looking for a problem.
