I have the KYB Monomax. I choose that model/brand after reading threads on forums for guys who had the same truck as me. I think that makes a big difference when making your choice. Read carefully not only what brands are favored, but also what truck they are on.
I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 4x4 quad short bed SRW with a 2" spacer lift in front and a helwig 4 spring overload pack on the rear. I run air bags and a Helwig BigWig sway bar
The shocks replaced the OEM's at 50,000 miles. The difference was nothing less than incredible when running my camper. Loaded down with everything, I weigh a bit over 12,000. (running Rickson 19.5's with Toyo M608 tires)
I am satisfied with them both in performance and value. I paid about $250 for the 4.
When I have the camper off, the ride is stiff, but then I do have the overload spring pack and the 19.5 tires on there at 90psi too, so what can you expect?
However, the ride is also very controllable. Steering on these trucks is twitchy as you know. Nothing changed. I installed a steering box brace and I find the steering to be laser precise.
I mention all this because there's a lot more going on with suspension than just the shocks. My KYB's may or may not be all that and a bucket of chicken since there's so much more upgraded in that area. However, for the price, they were a definite felt improvement at a reasonable cost.
