Shocks
A search resulted in 21 pages of discussion but nothing definitive I could take away. Perhaps someone can offer some additional information for me... Looking to put new shocks on my 2500 Duramax 4x...

The real suspension in normal situations with stock vehicles is the springs. The shocks are just there to control and limit the springs to help keep the vehicle stable.

No where in in this thread is there mention that shocks improve carrying capacity.
Shocks dampen the action of the springs and the really good ones do it very well for a long time.
Your statement is exactly why I added shocks to our 5er! To control the bounce of the springs so the 5er is not continually bouncing after hitting a bump.
