I have Rancho 9000's on the back of an F350 diesel. I don't have any other suspension mods.
The truck is my DD in winter/ snow (4WD), and does whatever random hauling I need to do. Sometimes that's just a few pieces of lumber, or a canoe, and sometimes it's almost a cord of firewood, or a TC.
They ride well loaded at 9, and unloaded at about 3. At some level, a shock is a shock is a shock. All it does is dampen vibration. The big advantage of Ranchos to ME is that you can change the valving for different situations. I can ride around unloaded without bouncing my teeth out my skull with HD shocks, but then I can load it up and crank the shocks up appropriately so they actually DO something.
If my TC was loaded 100% of the time, I'd just go for heavy duty shocks. There'd be no advantage to the adjustability.
