About 3 years ago, we had previously sold our pup and did not have a camper at all. My DW had an '04 Toyota Sienna that we towed our pup with. We wanted to get back into trailer camping, and a pup just wouldn't work for us any longer.
We really wanted to get some kind of trailer that was easier to set up than a pup, and I wanted to tow it with DW's minivan. I looked at used TrailManors, Hi-Los, fiberglass egg trailers, small single axle TTs, etc., and tried to make our camping wants and needs match up to the capabilities of DW's Sienna. In the end, the numbers just wouldn't work (and we only have 2 kids). I tried and tried to figure out a way, but I just wasn't comfortable with the stresses a trailer would put on our van, and the possible safety compromise while towing.
Two years ago, we bit the bullet and bought a high-mileage Suburban, and then subsequently a 26' TT. We love the combination. The Suburban gives us lots of dry, lockable storage and room for our black lab, and the TT is super quick and easy to set up, with a decent amount of room inside. This combination should serve us for quite some time.
Good luck with whatever you do.
