shopping for truck camper that pops uu

i have a sierra pu 1500 with the 5.3 liter engine. I am now pulling a 3e500 hybrid. the truck doesnt even know it is pulling this light of vehicle. I now want to also get a truck camper for fishing expeditions. I have looked at many and there all seem to have pro and cons. Is there a definitive brand outthere that you all really like. I plan to get a used one so an not so concerned with the price only quality and durability. Thanks.

I REALLY liked the Alaskans but there were too many trade-off in the end. Biggest being NO bathroom. Also if you are 6' tall you will be bumping your head..

Lol, Steve, you have to raise the top before you get in.

I believe most of the ones 7.5' and longer have cassette toilets.

I have had Outfitter build two campers for me, our first Apex8 back in 2004 and then we upgraded to the longer Apex 9.5 in 2007. For your 1500 truck you will need to look at their smaller/lighter models.
  • I really like my Outfitter Apex 8. Had it since 2004. I would buy another one.

Well I really like my FWC. I am on my second, the first I had for 23 years and recently purchased another. Aluminum frame construction and built to survive off road use. They are not inexpensive and used ones sell fast and for top dollar.

Here is a forum that is more dedicated to the world of pop ups:

  • I know you will have alot of voices chiming in on weight etc. I will just comment that since you are in Georgia, pickin's will be slim. There used to be a Four Wheel Camper dealer in NC, but he packed it in for the Pacific Northwest I believe. We did get to check one out before he moved and they are very neat! New was a little pricey (which is why we passed) I have since then become a fan of the Northstars.

Several brands of truck campers will be at the Raleigh NC RV show this weekend. Check Truck Camper Magazine for list of mfgs that will be there.
  • No, there isn't one that we all like. :) I'd look at a Four Wheel Camper.
