I've always installed a Marinco disconnect kit on any trailer we've owned that wasn't already so equipped and have never had the slightest concern that someone might want to walk off with the cable. That said, for those who just can't get past this agonizing thought just cut your main service cable back in length so the connection to an extension cable can be tucked somewhere out of the weather, say within the wheel well. The shorter cable will tuck easily back in through the mouse hole to it's storage compartment without tangling yet still be permanently attached to the trailer.
