Heavy trucks now have the option of liquified natural gas. Energy density is similar to diesel, so the only extra space needed at the tanks is the insulation. For short haul use, liquified NG is pretty ideal! The fueling network just isn't there for long-haul use, but with NG prices, I suspect we'll see some corridors in the near future where this will be feasible.
