Certainly a different system in Pennsylvania, how is your department funded :H Seems like most departments are funded by city, county or state funds although I have heard of private companies protecting certain high dollar homes lately which are funded by the insurance companies.
Do you respond to 911 calls?
Not ever dept is set up like us. You go up to the road from us and the town owns the trucks and the department's, and those lucky guys don't need to do any fund drives but anything they buy they need city approval first , were we don't.
We don't have a fire tax in our Twp and so we don't get any tax money directly from are Twp. Now we do apply for grants and have gotten a few. We were able to get a FEMA grant a few years ago for are 2008 smeal pumper but we still had to pay 20%. Most of the money that we use we get though fund raising . We have events all year long, we have cash bash events gun tickets we do chicken BBQ stake diners and many others. We also send out donation letters once a year to all property owns in the Twp.
We also have the fireman's club its a private bar like a VFW that provides a lot of are funding.
As far as being dispatch, we are dispatch by our county 911 center and we answer calls with other company's . In fact we respond with a number of other departments on there first alarm and there respond with us on our first alarms.
So in your travels if you come to a small town and see a chicken BBQ going on at a fire hall stop a buy a dinner.
