should i buy a sun lite 19bh camper

I am kinda new at the camper stuff. I have an opportunity to buy a 2013 sun lite 19BH. The dealer wrote "no certification sticker" on the contract. He said it was a discontinued company and that is why its such a great deal. it really is a beautiful trailer, I am pretty handy with most repair things around the house/. I have worked in construction and am mechanically able.( telling you this for feedback) but I am wondering if there is going to be manufacturer specific parts that I will not be able to fix. anybody?
  • Have you asked the dealer "It doesnt have a certification sticker. What does that mean to me as the purchaser?" May or not get the most honest answer, but the answer could point you in the direction for some additional research.
  • thank you for the advice. after researching sunset park rv, I found what I was looking for. thanks again. I also checked the price and I am getting a good deal on it. the only thing I have a issue with is the "no certification sticker" on the application.
  • I'd say it depends on how low the price is. If it really is some crazy low bargain price, sure, I'd roll the dice. But you need to do some homework and find out if you can get another brand similar for the same money.

I wouldn't touch it with a 10' pole. If you don't want a warranty or the dealer to be responsible for anything, AND pay a new camper price, that's a bit insane to me. To many MAJOR things to go wrong especially with a camper from a bankrupt company. They were probably taking short cuts when it was made due to lack of staff or care when they're being laid off.

Use that money and buy a different NEW left over camper with a warranty, maker and dealer backing. I had a new 2008 Jayco Jay Flight 19BH and bought when they were shutting down and laying everyone off. SO many things were blown off with the quality check. Windows were all damage to due over tightening them on install, same with siding. It had a recall due to the paint flaking off. Jayco fixed everything like new through the warranty. If there were no warranty, parts would had been a fortune for me to do it myself, along with finding the time.

That dealer seems very crooked in having a "no certification sticker".

I doubt he's discounting it anymore than 40% off of MSRP (real MSRP, not dealer inflated with additional deliver and prep added!). You can find deals all day for a 2013 at that discount if your not stuck on a dealer or floorplan.

    Look elsewhere.
  • I wouldn't hesitate, like others said, most all the "specific" parts are outsourced pieces like the heater, awnings, fridge, water pumps, ect.
  • Is this a Sunset Park RV Sun Lite 19bh trailer? Appears they are in business? Might want to give them a call directly?
  • Most items on all campers are identical! Stoves, refrigerators, lights, water heater. Everything else, you can probably get from a Lowe's, Home Depot, or your dealer.

Ask your dealer, if you purchase the camper, if they can still service it. Find out what they are pretty sure they could handle without having to depend upon the manufacturer's parts. Things like tires, batteries, light fixtures, are pretty much the same. But if you had a roof leak, would they be willing, or could they, do the work, even if you're paying them. If their answer is "NO", then that means, they'd have problems doing odd-ball repairs too. If they "Yes" they can still service it, for example change a water heater, or replace the refrigerator, or fix a leaky shower, or change the sink faucet, then that should give you some confidence YOU can do it too, and get parts.

Does it come with any kind of warranty? And if so, who will cover the warranty? Dealer? If there's a problem 20 minutes after you drive off the lot, will they still fix it? Or are you completely on your own?

Check these things out? If they say they can fix any problems, then YOU can fix it too. If not ... run!
