Should I worry?

My travel trailer has been at the dealer since mid October for minor warranty repair. It's finally ready for pick-up and I am scheduled to pick up on Saturday.

Concern I have is the hard freeze we are supposed to have tomorrow night. The water lines have not been drained or winterized. This is South Louisiana it rarely freezes. Forecast is for 23 degrees.

When I dropped it off in October, I never imagined it would take this long to get repaired.

Should I be worried?

Worried, maybe but one night of freezing weather might not cause damage.

Why would one night of 23 degrees exempt him from damage? If it were two nights should he be worried?

Water freezes at 32 degrees. At 23 degrees, there is a real danger of freeze damage. It would only take a few hours at this temperature for serious damage to occur.
  • 23 is cold. Period

Our 3 season sees mid 20s but we are in it with the furnace running keeping all but the waste tanks warm. I wouldn't let it sit in the lot for a night that cold without winterizing it.

Talked to the dealership this morning. Apparently they winterized all the units that they had in the service dept. Got to love this type of service.

    Who is the dealer?

    Primeaux in Carencro
  • I wonder in these posts when I read "water freezes at 32" why the poster has to state the obvious.

The real question that needs answering is "how long does it take the water to approach freezing?"
I live in SoCal and we have occasional evenings where the temp might approach 27 or 28 degrees. However on those evenings it's been 60 + during the day in most cases. Also, it's going to go back above freezing as soon as the sun rises.

Even though the evening temps will be well below freezing for a short period, it will take a significant amount of time at that temperature for water in any volume to actually freeze and the chances of any damage in an RV water system is non existent.
