Even if I could not get our trailer brakes to lock, I would be satisfied if the trailer braked well enough that I did not have to press the brake petal in the truck harder when towing than when not towing. That would tell me that the trailer brakes were doing their share--they are not! I have done the following on our trailer and it has increases the brake performance, but not enough that the trailer is doing its share: 1) replaced original Lippert 4400 lb. axles with 10" hubs with Lippert 5200 lb. axles that come with 12" hubs 2) replaced the single 14 ga. brake wire in the trailer with 2 12 ga. wires to reduce voltage drop to the coils 3) replaced the Lippert 5200 brake pads with Dexter 7000 lb brake pads. Each of these changes helped but not enough. I am now replacing the 7 conductor connector cord with heavier gauge wire to eliminate the .5 volt drop in it--we'll see. On the next trailer, if there is a next trailer, it will go straight from the dealer to MorRyde for independent suspension with disk brakes installation!
