Shower door shattered

Upon arriving at the CG, we found that the SKY brand, three glass panel door on our rigs shower door had broken. Only one of the glass panels was broken. I definitely locked/ secured the door prior to leaving however it was an 11 hour trip and the temps were really high in the camper. Not sure what caused this but I need to get it replaced. I’m going to contact the manufacturer but has anyone dealt with this before and if so what did you do? Thanks??
  • I'd suggest to replace the panel from the MFG since you have a set of panels. When you install the new panel, make sure that all four edges are bedded well in sealer. The mfg can suggest a sealer but any well bodied sealer/caulk will work. I would use a urethane like Xcel, the Geocel products, or other. Don't buy the cheap stuff at the big box store.

In almost all cases where a tempered glass panel shatters is by impact on an edge. You can shatter them with high impact on the surface but there doesn't need to be much on the edges.

Every shower door I have ever delt with is simply set in a rubber gasket set in an aluminum frame, no sealer!
Sharp contact on the surface will also cause failure. Our shower door contacts the edge of the vanity, if free swinging could break. You stated you were sure you locked the door before leaving, was the frame still locked.

Those door locks on the showers are no where near to perfect to keeping the shower door closed. And over time get looser and looser and bang back and forth when traveling. I secure mine with a bungee whenever traveling to prevent this.

Was it the door glass that shattered or a side panel? look closely at the top where they attach. Sounds like they might have come loose enough to shake when traveling.

Calling the Manufacturer will take you weeks if not months to get the glass panel. You will have to drive and leave your RV somewhere, again for weeks/months. And that's IF they think it is a manufacturing issue which it won't ever be.

** If you are at a CG I would "highly recommend" that you ask the CG manager who they use for RV Mobile Repair. Mobile Repair WILL be able to have a glass panel there for you within the day AND installed!
They have connections for acquiring parts that you and I do not. :W

I only use RV Mobile Repair at CG's for ALL my MH needs. :C
  • Drop in an talk to local glass shop - suspect many/most deal with replacing mirrors and shower door glass. Worth a look.
  • Yes, one of our panels shattered while parked at home! We contacted our local independent RV repair shop who referred us to RV Glass Hero and they came out and replaced just the one panel and did an excellent job. Had we not had a service like this local to us, our next option was to purchase the entire "kit" from the manufacturer, which we could've.

Agree with ksg5000 because we thought of that option too.
  • If a local RV tech service can't help or is unavailable. You might try a try a local or national chain glass company that does mobile repairs.
  • Hello mobeewan, I agree with you. You try national glass company that does repairs. If you want to any idea, information for shower panel in your bathroom. I hope I know, better information for shower panel where you get it.
