Shurflo 4008 Revolution rapid cycling

We just used our new-to-us 2011 Outdoors RV Back Country trailer this past week, and noticed that the Shurflo unit stutters like a machine gun when the faucets are opened to a low flow. The stuttering goes away when the faucet is cranked open to near max flow. Checked for leaks, cleaned the aerators, cleaned the strainer on the pump inlet...no changes. My old trailer had an older Shurflo that had an adjustment screw, but I see this one has a bypass adjustment screw (allen key) but not sure if I want to tinker with that or not? Otherwise everything works fine.....perhaps it's something I should ignore and not worry about, but curious as to solutions? Pluming lines are 1/2" PEX or similar poly.
  • It's normal for a pump to stutter under low flow. Adding an accumulator tank will help.
  • Its an 'on-demand' pump 3gpm/55 psi

    Low demand..it hits 55# quickly/shuts-off/pressure drops to 40#---turns on/repeats

A small accumulator tank will cure that for sure.
  • You may hear it 'cause it's not well noise-insulated from the pipes and floor. Mine's a bit noisy too, but haven't yet done anything about it.

Or, if it makes a real *big* racket the built-in backflow valve may be broken. If so, it will start filling up your fresh water tank when connected to city water. That's a good test for a faulty backflow valve. Outdoors RV sent me a new one under warranty when ours did that.
