Well i need some advice on what silicone to use around my windows and doors. I have a 2012 starcraft and it is made of aluminium. I know that the roof needs dicor but do they also make it for the side of my rv also. Curious if i should touch up the roof also even though it is not cracked at all. Thanks

I don't use silicon on anything. Once you put it on nothing else will stick to it. I use a polyurethane caulk. There are several brands on the market. I use one called Quad. It's available in several colors from many of the big box stores. I e-mailed the manufacturer and was told it would be excellent for what I wanted it for. It has held up well. I generally tape off both sides of where I want to put it. That way I can get a nice straight line. No reason to do anything to the roof if it doesn't need it. Check for shrinking also.B.O.

Never heard of polyurethane before. Will look into that. I guess they should also sell that at my rv dealer.

No silicone on my rig, nothing will stick to it. Not even more silicone. :)

Agreed - No Silicone!! Silicone is bad news for any exterior sealing efforts.I make a lot of money doing extensive repairs and rebuilds because people insist on using silicone to seal things with!!I used to use and recommend a lot of polyurethane caulking, until I did a test on my own TT. I resealed my corner moldings with it and it came apart and split after a year of travels.About 2 years ago I started using Titebond Weathermaster for all my solarium builds and repairs. This stuff is amazing! First sealant I have ever found that will actually stick to wet mill finish aluminum.It is a polymer based sealant and so far I have not had any issues or failures with it.It has huge joint movement, which is important for RV use. It stretches like a rubber band. It also cures to a stretchy soft rubber like consistency. Tensile strength is excellent. I am using it extensively and really find it superior to anything I have used before.I use it for sealing glass to aluminum and different flashings, trims etc.

I've always been suspicious of the tape stuff. So use 3M Marine 4200 Polyurethane Adhesive Sealant instead, both under the lip and all around the edges. Water can come from below as well ...

There's also 3M 5200 if you never want to remove it. Never tried it though.

Stuff's not cheap though and although fine with walls, not sure if any polyurethane product should be used on a rubber roof.

Yeah the tape is under the frames and caulking is to seal off the top and sides of the frames.

The key word is around. Tape under the window frame and caulk around the window frame. Do not caulk at the bottom of the window frame. Leaving it un-caulked will let moisture drop off.

Do not use the caulk under the frame. Like stated above the tape remains sticky and flexible to move with the flex of trailer.

I was told by camping world to use the dicor non sag lap sealant around the windows and storage doors. Is this good to use are should I use something different?

If you are replacing a fixture that you need a weatherproof seal on then keep it simple and use rope caulking ( AKA tape caulk). This stuff will stay pliable & sticky for many many years and doesn't harden. Easy to clean up and trim.
I've been using it since back in the 70's. Amazon carries it and your local hardware store will have it. Good to keep a roll in your RV tool box
