Silicone grease
What do you use on the "o" ring on the water filter housing? The manufacturer says to use silicone grease. What kind do you use?

You should already have it. - Don't worry about it is "food-grade" or not. Just use any silicone grease you have available.
Bruce - The correct product in this application is food grade silicone grease. It should be FDA approved for potable water use and contain no petroleum additives. Available from most places that sell water filter housings and filters. It helps to keep a spare O-ring on hand as sometimes they won't fit again.

- Once a year I use vaseline on the o-ring. Same filter case for 15 years; just replace filter cartridge each year before first trip out. Always carry a spare cartridge also.

- I used to use vaseline but it stretched the ring too much. I started using mineral oil and that has worked well.
