the new 2017 will have more aluminum in the truck plus an 8 spd trans. opposed to a 6 spd for 2016. so far the 2016 has been awesome.
i think the tow rating is 10,900. My 23RB at 27 ft rolls down the road at approx 6k# with about 850-900 TW on average.
I don't know how it would perform at high steep altitudes but towing east of the Mississippi, it has zero problems holding speed.
It will crank up to near 4000 rpms to hold 65 mph on long 7% grades but that's been the norm for this engine as well as my 04, 4 spd., 6.0 with zero issues. Max towing pack has a tranny cooler which is important. The DIC on the dash shows tranny temp as well, im at 195-205F most of the time during the hot summer months.
This 2016 1500 is a better feeling TV than my 2004 6.0, 4.10 gears 2500HD with beefed up rear spring pack, stable loads and air bags ( all are not needed due to the light trailer) .
2016 1500 max tow does the job better and easier. The rig tows real smooth at 65 mph . - Properly equipped truck will be a breeze to pull 20' TT.

Get a WDH with integrated sway control. Use Tow/Haul mode. Enjoy. - WNYBobExplorerSince you are looking at new, negotiate E rated tires to replace the P's.
Next check the hitch capacity weights, I don't use a WDH and I'm at the 600# limit of the OEM hitch. I have some sway, but I can handle it.
If you go with a WDH watch your payload limits as they add to it.

But you can't get it now - LJAZExplorerYou should have no problem pulling a 20 ft trailer with a Chevy (or GMC) 1/2 ton pickup. I tow a 21 ft trailer with a 2011 Chevy 4x4 crew cab with 5.3 L and 3.42 gears and it pulls just fine.
- Road_RunnersExplorerWe want the 1/2 ton crew cab to pull a 20 ft rv trailer to be used as our motel room when we are traveling cross country to visit friends and relatives. I looked at the truck specs on the web and it is tow ready with integrated brake controller and 3.42 axle.
- MFLNomad IIA new 1500 with 5.3 engine should have no problem pulling a 20' TT. Look for one with 3.42 gearing.
Jerry - Sandia_ManExplorer IIHad a 5.7 liter Chevy back in the day although I was only tent camping back then. We did pull a trailer with a couple of atvs and loaded with various camping equipment, probably 2K# and of course it had no issues towing it. When GM went to the 5.3 liter I thought the new engine didn't have quite the punch of the 5.7 liter. Engine was rock solid and never had an issue, traded in due to tranny problems after 200K miles.
