If you can find where I have bashed GM's competition I'll let your comment stand. And, if brand bashing isn't allowed you may want to start your clean up effort at home.......
:B Just wanted to let you know I'm here and didn't mention a word. And DJ is about 800 miles away now but we miss him :W
In before the lock !
Ric if I have bashed your Dodge throw it out there. If you look through my posts you will only see praise for the Cummins. - TargaExplorer

Kind of a sore spot for you??? :h. Like i said I am glad the government stepped in on this one, I would have hated to see so many families hurt, to include your's, but you really have no right to get sore at people that are bent out of shape over the bail out. I'll close by saying your welcome. - wmosesExplorerPerrysburg Dodgeboy might not be right on the fender difference between the 2010 Silverado / Sierra trucks ;) but he is generally right on this tangent discussion.
- travelnutzExplorer IIPerrysburg Dodgeboy said it right and he's right on. The ripple effect of not helping GM and Chrysler would have been so catastrophic with many millions of jobs, homes, suppliers, stores, schools, etc closed or abondoned and would have turned a serious recession into a deep depression. A drastic drop in tax revenue for local schools that meant fast closures and far less money spent in stores etc and so many would have close. No jobs, no income or taxes withheld! There would be such a drop in all tax revenue to the Fed Gov, State, and local that even public assistance to the millions affected wouldn't have been remotely possible. A depression so deep the nation's economy would likely not have survived at all.
After the banking industry turned their back on GM and Chrysler, there was no other option but a forced bailout or the certain failed economy. The mandated new EPA regulations among many others and the extreme high costs of doing business with much of it due to built up legacy costs from several previous generations had come to a head and was no longer sustainable. It was the same as burning a candle from both ends and the flames had finally reached the center! The candle is GONE! - Perrysburg_DodgExplorerSpoon you won't get a "retraction" but I will give you that apology. Kind of a sore spot with me and when someone says that GM and Chrysler should have been left out in the cold. It is just mind boggling to me.
Just so you know, your statement
"I don't have an exact number of how many jobs are tied (tided...?typo sorry LOL) in to the auto industry, but I do have a simple understanding of the free market. Free market encourages competition. A company needs to make a product that the buyer needs, for a price that the buyer is willing to pay, at a cost that the company can afford to make and turn a profit. Ford, GM, Chrysler, Toyota, Honda, Kia, Hyundai, Mercedes, BMW etc all make a similar product. If one of those companies goes out of business, their market share is divided amongst the remaining companies."
The Companies highlighted in red ALL received money form their Countries! EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM! GM and Chrysler only needed their lines of credit extended. But the BANKS you know the ones that received Trillions most paying nothing back, refused to extend GM and Chrysler's lines of credit leaving them with no option but to go to the Government for help.
If you wish to not buy a GM or a Chrysler you won't hurt my feelings one bit. I have never said this before to anyone, but I hope you don't! So you know Ford and the other car companies all get their parts from the same suppliers, so yes if GM and Chrysler went under they would take all but the largest suppliers with them. Causing the other companies to also go under! Not to mention the fact that millions of Americans would be unemployed and collecting unemployment, food stamps, no health care, more home foreclosures, personal bankruptcy and God knows what else I have forgot.
So I'll ask you if you still think Bush and Obama did the wrong thing?
BTW here's your typo "I think that pricate (private...?) industry should remain private and the government should not show preference to onw (one...? company or one industry over another." Kind of childish don't you think?
Don - tomman58ExplorerI am so glad American Trucks are back on line and doing well. I am glad that all those folks are doing okay building those trucks and that GM is still based here in Michigan USA.
The auto companies were a significant part of the 22 TRILLION the great recession cost the USA. It is exciting to see so many new things being brought to the RV folks as well as the daily truck users. I love my Silverado and had many GMC in the past the only difference today is in the styling and that determines which one I'll by next can't wait for the 2500's to come out. - spoon059Explorer IIWayne, I didn't start the political comments but I felt compelled to reply to them.
I didn't say the US government was Socialist now, I didn't say Obama was a Socialist or the Democratic party. If I remember correctly, the bailout nonsense started with Bush. I stated that government taking over interest in a private company is Socialism. The definition of the word supports my argument. Like it or not, it is a truthful statement and I stand by it. - 45RicochetExplorer

In before the lock ! - wmosesExplorerMike, fiscal interest in one company does not make a government socialist. People here in the US like to spout the "socialism" word if there is anything even approaching centre from the right. Obama is not socialist, the Democrats are not socialist, and there is no socialist party in the US worth mentioning. Take it from me, there is no socialist country in North America .... Oh, and that includes Canada!
Now let's drop this political drivel and get back on topic PLEASE. - ls1mikeExplorer III hope Hyundai/Kia starts making a truck for sale in the US. We can then throw that in the mix!
