How was the trail to Bristol Head? Do you think I could get my Outfitter part way up it?
Bill,
The trail was very easy until the last mile. It rained and snowed (1st week of August) on us going in. About a mile before the end of the trail, there was a rocky/muddy section about 1/2 mile long. Then it was another 1/2 mile to the end of the trail after the rocky section.
If you have 4wd and took your time, I believe you could make it to the top with your Outfitter. If it was dry, that would make it a whole lot easier. I would not recomend you try that trail unless you have another vehicle with you incase something comes up.
The trail to the left at the Y went to Crystal Lake. That trail had some steep narrow sections.
We did see bone stock 4wd full-size trucks on most of both trails, and that was in very wet conditions. So, it ain't really that bad. But we didn't see anyone after the rocky/muddy section.
You could stop and park (or even camp) at beginning of the rocky/muddy section and walk to the top.

Looking at this map, the muddy/rocky part was the straight section (between the 3,650 and 3,750 meter conture lines) right before the red gps track makes a big u-turn before coming to the word "Bristol" on the map.
