Simple truck camper

There was an early discussion thread about simple, inexpensive living and camping. Looks like Travel Lite has come up with a camper just for that market.

  • And at 1150 lbs it's too heavy for what you get. My cabover has a wetbath and a queen bed, way more storage, and holding tanks...weighs 1745 dry. Just don't see it.
  • Seems silly to me. Not hard or heavy to put the cabover. I can't see a market unless it is someone who can't or does not want to climb in and out of a cabover. Might as well just get a tall shell canopy and customize it a bit. I think this will be a dud.

I can imagine single fisherman or hunter might like it, but I don't think my wife would agree to anything without a slide and full bath.

Lowest price unit is around $5500

  • This looks like the solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

Who is this going to appeal to? The TC market is limited enough. Who would want an even more limited TC.

As an example, where are all the folks that were supposed to buy the TC that had double rear doors to let you drive your atv in?

BTW, just showed it to Cathy and her first words were- "that looks stupid".

IMHO this thing will die a slow but quiet death. Maybe I'm wrong, but......
  • I like it, and there is definitely a market. Price and weight are great for someone who just wants a hardside choice to step up from a tent. Either the base or front-bed versions would be a good match for the new Ford 1/2 ton trucks.
  • That doesn't appear to be the target market at all. It seems to be a cabover free design though, but I'm wondering why that makes any sense. Sure, it is easier for them to build, but if you have the same height and worse COG with not offsetted weight forward, what's the point for the consumer?
