Calisdad, what size trailer are you looking at? If you go with a really small one (like mine), the bad news is that they are all single axle. The good news is that they are great for boondocking in heavily forested areas, like the Sierra! (Or, since you actually live in the Sierra, maybe you are heading for the coast or the desert? In which case maneuverability is less crucial.)
I do love my little trailer, but a single axle is definitely less stable in case of a blowout.
Hey Dan, Definitely 25' or under. It seems the biggest factor is my wife wants a walk around (I don't want to climb over you) queen bed. As you know the Sierras have become unbearably hot in August through September and beyond so we want to hit the Oregon Coast next summer. We also don't want to be locked into a spot when we get there so it's either tow the Jeep with our Tioga or get a TT and haul it with my F150 that I just put air bags on. We have just never pulled a TT so we're trying to figure out what works best for us. Stock my Ford will tow 11,900 but we'd aim for less than half that.
With our Tioga we can go down all sorts of forest service roads but with a TT we wouldn't even venture. Then I see all the great places you get to and either you spend a lot of time on Google Earth or you just sort it out (or a little of both). So really testing the waters. Friends of our have an Outback Terrain. We like it, almost got one, but the roof had failed after one year on this one so it put us back decision wise.
Hope I made some sense.
