Single wheel trailers

With all the discussion of trailers I'm curious if anyone has used one of these trailers:

Single wheel trailers

to get some additional carrying capacity. It looks like they might fit underneath the truck camper overhang without the need for an extension (though the trailer space directly underneath could only be "short" items). Seems like kind of a neat option.

Thoughts?

  • I will be using a small light trailer to carry motorcycle or 4wheelers and supplies.
  • The swivel wheel platforms disconnect and either have feet or wheels on the front to suspend them. They are not as convenient to connect/disconnect as a trailer since they are pinned in to two or three tubes.
  • A big problem is when you want to just drop your trailer and load. For example; I haul my kayak on my trailer. When I get to my camp spot, I disconnect and hand wheel the trailer out of the way, then back into my spot and level. It doesn't look like that will work.
  • It might depend what is being carried on the platform, as far as opening a rear camper door. Maybe a side door camper might work better. Just a thought .

If you look at pics of truck campers, this platform might not work on some overhanging campers due to the fact that the platform pivots up and down and might bang into the overhang of the camper.
See the pics on the websites of swivel-wheel trailers and see how the plarform is in line with the trucks bumper.

How was it attached, don't understand the swinging.
  • Would make straddling road debris, be it truck treads or roadkill somewhat of a challenge. Or even those destructive potholes.

  • I looked at those about three years ago and found them to be too expensive for me. The advantage of these platforms is that they are not considered a trailer, so it is not considered double towing if attached to your trailer and it does not require its own plate and registration whether attached to your vehicle or trailer.

I would be wary of using one under the TC since they pivot up and down although they do not pivot left to right.
  • I've seen them before - they are popular among the 5th wheel crowd, for hauling this like ATVs, etc.

There's a few companies that make them, but I can't remember the names of them all right now.

The link above - I sure hope the product is built more professionally than their website. The site is so 1990s looking. Very "old school" by today's standards
