knowoe they vary a bit, but can anyone give me an idea of what they typicallyly are?

There is no real 'typical' depth since slide outs, like much in the RV industry, are unregulated. The most I would say is there is a 'tendency' towards certain depths but these may vary from one manufacturer to another as they jockey for bragging rights when it comes to interior space. Variances also come with trailer type and whether or not they (claim to be) 'regular' or 'lite, with the former typically having the deeper slides.
Just my 2 cents based on poring over many brochures of many trailers over the years.
