I just picked up a Skamper camper. Anyone know anything about them? Are they still around? It has the pop up roof. I specifically wanted one of these as one place I want to go to has a rail overpass that was too low for my Class B motor home I used to have.I think it's a 1978 model. It's a bit beat up but seems dry and isn't in too bad of a condition. 15 amp shoreline, refrigerator and more storage than I'll ever need. I've got it strapped to the truck but as soon as my driveway opens up, I'll be installing hooks to tie it down properly. It's on a '97 F250 old body style with the 7.3 turbo oil burner.I plan to modify it a bit as it'll be my get away for a day or two unit. I also have a really small lot and it won't take up much room.

I'd love to see a picture or two.

I believe the last company to own the Skamper name was the Coleman company. However, your 78 model was not a Coleman product, but was the original AMF Skamper and was 1000x better than the product that Coleman put the Skamper name on. I had a 1974 AMF Skamper C class that I bought new and it was a very good and well built coach.

I see them for sale a lot here in Colorado, but never one that old. They seem like nice enough campers.

This has got to be one of the coolest campers I've seen in awhile and no wonder you had an offer to buy already. This just about compares to a 1968 Kozy Traveler Kar Kamper on a 1959 Edsel that I saw at an old time vintage camper and car show last month.

Considering how a 3/4 ton diesel truck hunkers down, I doubt it would be a fun drive on a Ranger. I need to put some air in my bags as there isn't much. Then again, it doesn't want to launch the rear of the truck with it on there.

I'm rather surprised at how much storage is inside. I found cubby's the previous owner didn't know about. I'll be putting a water tank in the front to get some weight on the front axle along with a house battery so I can boondock with it. The one site I want to stay at is primitive and without electric or facilities. I'm now looking for a trailer for a motorcycle to pull. I have an extra generator to take camping for power.

Cool, and it fits between the wheel wells of a Ranger. Those are sought after quite often. It looks to be in great shape.

Okay, let's try this. Keep in mind, the yellow straps were just a temporary expedient to get it home. I have 4, 11,000 pound hooks to install in the bed for tie downs. The bed will rip off before this puppy leaves the truck.

I've already had an offer of $2000 for the truck and camper. Since KBB on my truck is $7500, I don't think so.

It spent a lot of years in a barn at a farm. The fellow I bought it from said he'd had it for years and had was on his second 5th wheel trailer since he quit using it. I'm not big on tent camping and one place I like to go has an 8'10 clearance to get to. My Class B was 9'2. On my truck this one is right at 8 feet tall.

It has some dents and such from years of use but that's just character.
