- HioSSilverExplorerOne again....thanks for the replies.
Yes my old nittos were rated heavier. I have 2 older nittos off a truck i flipped with a high weight rating in a 17. I called nitto last year and they said they no longer produce tires on 17 with that weight rating due to a gov rule change of some sort. Thanks obumarwiegand wrote:
I hunted long and hard for my 851 for exactly that reason. Seems just about perfect to me. I can tow directly off the hitch with my Air-Safe hitch (I pull a ~9000 lb trailer with a fairground organ in it), but still have the elbow room that the slide provides. It's an extraordinarily nice combination, especially with the big tanks since 90% of the time I'm boondocking. Unfortunately they only made it for two years about 10 years ago, so they aren't easy to find, especially on the east coast. It is a heavy camper, you'll really want a dually truck for it. Between camper and trailer I'm right at all the upper weight limits for my F350. A few more pounds and I'd need a CDL. The rig is also tall, about 12'6", which frequently causes headaches.
I really just don't "get" short bed trucks. I can only imagine they are bought by people who don't really need a truck when they aren't camping. Even with an 8 ft bed I routinely have lumber and other stuff hanging way too far off the back end. I don't understand how they have come to dominate the market.
You sir have the holy grail tc set up.
I like long bed trucks mostly. But with a extended cab they verge on being to long. When i bought my truck ecsb i wanted it to be more versatile. That set up is only 6 inches longer than a rclb truck. That's why they came to dominate.
Hind sight being 2020 i woulda bought a eclb dmax. But even then your kinda screwed when it comes to hauling a slideout camper because of the weight and limitations of a single wheel truck. - SidecarFlipExplorer IIII'm glad 16's aren't 'extinct'. Gobs available for my 97 F 350. Have Michelins right now.
- MN_BenExplorerYou can look through Lances past brochures to see what thay have in the 8' slide out range.
Select the year and click on the camper button. https://www.lancecamper.com/owner-support/
You can easily change between brochures by just changing the year in the URL and hitting enter/return/go on your computer.
Happy hunting,

New takeoff wheels in 18 or 20” are just too cheap and easy to get to mess with the 17” wheel bs anymore. - SugarHillCTDExplorer

Highest i coukd find for 17 inch wheels was 3495. I need to upgrade to 18s to get any more.
I have Nitto Dura Grapplers on STEEL 17" rims and they are rated at 3970#. Those are 285/75-17 and they fit on our '12 Chevy 2500. (no comments about wheel ratings PLEASE)
Slightly smaller 285/70-17 of the same model is rated at 3750#.
So there are tires out there in 17" sizes. - HioSSilverExplorer.......

Oh I'm way over on the truck now......grosses about 11k loaded. I mainly watch my tires. Mostly should probably be concerned if i need to upgrade the hitch from a class 3 to a class ? I guess.
But getting away from a hitch extension would be nice.
I'm just over 11k also, with small trailers. I don't even consider larger ones. Do you have 3750 lb tires? - Grit_dogNavigatorAre you saying you can’t find any locally or don’t know who makes them?
AF 811/860 long bed models are under 9’ with a slide. Similar models available by other mfgs as well. They all will let you tow without a hitch extension for the most part. Unless you have an unusual trailer.
