Skid rollers,

I encountered a nasty drop off while exiting a gas station and bent my skid plate angles almost to the black and gray pipes in a bone chilling scrape.:E

Does anyone know where to get a set of rollers to replace them? The gross weight of my TT is 7700 lbs.
  • Swivel wheels that take part of the weight plus swivel to allow the frame end to move easily in the direction it needs to would be preferred over a grounding skid or bumper getting dragged at an angle...
  • I installed 4 inch steel pivot wheels on the rear of our Oakmont. We have to turn in and out of the driveway and the wheels keep the bumper from dragging. They have worked very well every time. Got them from Tractor Supply.
  • Do not get the swivel ones. the last thing you want is your trailer going sideways once it sets on the rollers!!!
  • Well, the skid bars are kinda like the old 'curb feelers' from the old days...

They are meant to WARN you that you are hitting something... They are not meant to support the whole rig once you hit them...

It won't do any good to strap on some rollers on those things, because they will only reduce your clearance even more, and they are still just 'curb feelers' anyway..

Now, if you want to remove the skid bars and put the wheels in their place, than you might okay, but now you are asking the trailers frame to support your rig on an angle with weight on it that it was never designed to handle..

Taking the driveway at more of an angle might help, but if the angle is just too much, it's just too much for your rig and I'd either try for another place, or try a different angle.

    Good luck!

  • One more thing the main thing on the rollers would be the pin size on the center of the rollers, I thought about adding them, but from being in the heavy equipment business for YEARS, I know that the min. pin size thru the roller for me would be 1/2", and maybe even 5/8" or 3/4" would be better?
  • Mine has 1/2" strap type skid bars, if you use roller's make sure they are very heavy duty, because when you need them, all or most of the weight of the trailer, may be on one roller, or a combination of them both! Just my 2 cent's Bob
