What are the pros and cons you refer to?
Having:
Pros:
Protect seals from effects of UV
Lower temperature inside slide (debatable)
Protect slide top from sticks and leaves
Cons:
Wind flap sounds like thunder inside camper
More holes in camper that have to be kept sealed
Potential for mildew
Increased maintenance
They do not 100% prevent dirt on the slide top, but do 100% prevent you reaching the center of the slide top to clean it
Increased towing weight
Not having:
Pros:
Money saving
Easier to reach the slide top for cleaning
Easier to reach the entire outside gaskets and seals to apply conditioner
More weight allowance available to carry something else
Cons:
Potential effects of exposure to weather on the seals
My slide, while about 11 feet wide, is only 18 inches deep. I have opted, after much angst, to forego installing a slide topper.
