I would go with your wife to a Lance dealer's lot and look at the model you are considering with a slide or slides and see what it feels like inside with it out. I would also check out access to the bath and fridge with the slide in as well and see if it a problem or not.
We make multiple stops during the day and it would be a pain to have to extend the slide each time and in many cases it would be very impractical as when stopping at a store for groceries or getting fuel for the truck. It comes down to how you like to travel.
Not all that different from the trad-offs between a trailer and a slide-in camper relative to space versus convenience.
We bought a 3-year old camper for half the price of a new one. We could afford a new one but could not see enough added value to buy it instead of the used one. Most RV's are used only 5% of the year by their owners and after several years the total use is a matter of a couple months or less. The only concern is with how it was stored during that time. On the other hand with a new camper we would be making the trips to the dealer to get items repaired under warranty and having the loss of the use of the camper during that time.
Other than going to LED lighting and slides I am not aware of any substantial improvements in design or construction made by Lance in the past 5 years. Lots of marketing hype but no real innovation that I can see unless you include dual pane windows.
