Slide out adjustment advice required

So my slide out started squealing from what sounds like metal on metal. My unit is a Keystone Hideout 29BKS and while sitting in the driveway I leave it a bit tilted fwd as the driveway is slanted and also to let water run off it because I don't need it perfectly level. It also slants a bit to the slide side. Although, I can't imagine this slight weight imbalance would cause such a drastic grinding noise.

Hopefully the following video works!

  • Well the squeal is back. The only way I can make it go away is lie down under the slide and add some upward pressure while someone else closes it.

Not sure where I am going to go from here. Sometime in the fall after our last trip I will do my best to sort this out.
  • That's awesome RV17. I'm happy that your problem turned out to be minor like mine. I don't know how long the lube is supposed to last but I'm planning on making this lubrication procedure part of my annual maintenance. I just need to buy a roll of the 4" wide tape that's used to re-seal the underbelly.
  • Rob, so i removed the underbelly enough to stick my arm in and lube the channel that the slide out arm that was squealing rides in. Seems to have made things much better.

Lets hope this is all it takes!
  • One of the biggest things I have been told is to hold the in or out switch until you hear the motors kick out to keep them in sink. Same with the bed that drops over the cab seats.
  • I just had this problem. See the thread I started. https://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/29326170.cfm It turned out to be nothing more than an internal lubrication problem. The underbelly of my camper had to be opened up to lubricate the ends of the tubes and all other moving parts in there with a silicone spray. I'm very thankful because the diagnosis by Lippert was going to be expensive!
  • If it's a rack and pinion type, look at the square tubes at the outside. They often have hard plastic pucks mounted in the fixed housing that they slide into to guide those tubes. That's were they make a horendous squealing noise. It wont hurt anything but you can spray dry lube, which leaves a stain on the black tubes but works great, or you can use some parafin wax to rub and coat the area.
  • I have slide out lube and have used it quite a bit but it doesnt seem to fix anything.
  • Try some dry silicone spray all up and down and around the arms with the gear on them and the rollers with gears then run it in and out. That stopped the squealing on mine. I also sprayed the ram.

They just dry out and squeal off and on.
