Slide out depths

The heaviest slide is the shallowest slide of the three on my TT.

It has the fridge, over and storage cabinets.

But I've also learned it's important not to load a bunch of heavy stuff in the two deep slides - the exterior storage under the head of the bed, and pile a lot of stuff around the dining table.

I don't put my power cords and blocks into the storage area until the slide is in, and take them out before extending the bed slide.

Sounds mostly like a difference in manufacturing and to each his own. I like mine and I suppose others like theirs. Camp away!! :B

The part that baffles me a bit is opposing slides that are only around 20" deep. Our single slide is 42" deep.

We get the same interior space (open or closed) but only have one mechanism to maintain.

I suspect some of it is marketing. It sounds more impressive to claim 8 slides even if they are of limited benefit.

Side Note: walking into work today past the new superman movie shoot. They have a parking lot turned into a food area for the crew. They have a couple of semi trailers converted to dinner cars with 4' slide outs that run the length of the trailer. I peaked inside and the space is just incredible.

Just a few weeks ago, I was able to get into an amazing site at Many Glacier CG at Glacier NP that was marked for smaller rigs because of my shallow slides. In this case, the campsites are curved pullthroughs and really limit what length and width can be fit into it. But if you camp primarily in full hookup places, then the super slides will give more interior space.

Our slide is about 14 inches deep and carries the kitchen and a sofa. Since it is rather shallow, the TT is still comfortable with the slide in. Handy when we winter camp too.

Also since our rig is only 26 feet long, we do not have to worry about being to long or wide for a campsite.

The shallow slides often have the kitchens in them...plumbing, elec and gas lines don't have to move as far when the slide is out.

Depends on what you want, and where you camp. A deeper slide will more often than not render the camper useless with the slide in, as it usually cuts off one end of the RV. Usually the end with the bath. Also. You have to- move over farther in the site to keep from sliding out into your camping neighbors site. Remember. You site ends at your sewer hookup. NEVER slide out past it.

A more shallow slide usually allows you to still use your camper IF your site is full of trees, and there is no room to slide it out. Have had that happen in the mountains, and once at the beach. It also lets you have more room on the door / front side of the TT where you spend your time.

So you see, it is all in what you want.

Just depends on the model and the manufacture. Larger RV's tend to have deeper slides.

Some slides need to be huge to accommodate a dinette, HAB, etc. Ours is a smaller slide which lets the trailer sit lower to the ground at the expense of not having that lower space and not going out so far.

Ours has 2 slides...one is shallow (wardrobe) and one is deep (dinette and sofa)
