Yeah lots of really uneducated statements about the product and what its for and why their still sold. Lots of new folks I guess making guessing statements.
Early tip outs/slide outs weren't powered and were held (helped)in place with stabilizers furnished by the trailer mfg or the owner could buy his own. I didn't like the stabilizers furnished by my trailer mfg so I bought a set from my local mobilehome/RV parts store.
I wouldn't use them on a modern powered slideout that keeps the slide out pushed up against the opening.
