This makes sense. My trailer has a small slide with just a dinette that uses the Schwintek system. For me it's been great over the last 6+ years. However, I've been in campgrounds where I helped people push huge slides in that were having issues. They were big slides with the Schwintek. Like I said, for me it's been perfect, but I have a small slide that only extends about 12-14 inches.

I've had several mentioned and prefer cables but experienced no issues with any slide out....cables are simple to adjust if the need arises and easy to get to.

Cable slide on a small lightweight dinette slide out. It’s the only one we’ve had and has been fine for 5 years.

Cables and the ones with the tracks on the sides are much lighter. That is the big benefit to them. And they are both run by electric motors. No hydraulics to worry about.
I may be wrong on this but I think the ones supported from the bottom by "beams" can be either electric or hydraulic.

I have a 2009 Open Range with the cable slides. I had to replace one cable the somehow got longer than it should be. I like the cable slides.

I've seen/ heard across the campground, what happens when those with the tracks get opened when the trailer is not level. You will the the "gears" slipping. Not a big fan of these just from what I've seem.

The old reliable beams under being moved by oil or electric. Has been around for longer than the others. It's pretty reliable but as I said heavier.

As an example my 4 slide Open Range is 38 feet long and weighs 10,600 empty. You would be hard pressed to match that weight, length and number of slides with the traditional beams.

Everything has it's trade offs.

Haven't had a issue with any slide out I've ever had.
P.S. don't believe any RV salesman about anything.
