Slideout mechanisms
I looked at a TT that uses a cable system for the slideout. Some others have what looks like rack and pinion. I would love to hear your opinions as to which slideout mechanism is the most reliable. ...

Like John, one of my slides is the Lippert rack and pinion type and it does have that cam lift and lower action at both extremes of travel. So far workng very well. I have slide toppers on all slides and they too are working fine. That said I have never been in a storm with this RV so I can't comment on performance during such an event. There was rain on one trip and the toppers did not have any issues. I do have to lubricate the rubber seals though, and have to get the correct lubricant next trip to the RV dealership.
