Slides only work with Shore Power

Hello everyone,
My Travel Trailer sat for over a year and when I got back in town I started the process of resurrection. First thing I did was buy two brand new 6volt golf cart batteries, the employee tested them before I left and both were ready to go with a full charge. I installed them and was able to operate the tongue jack and the 12 volt system inside the trailer. The slides would not move under battery power, I could hear the relay clicking but no movement. I hooked the trailer up to a generator and the slides move like butter. I cleaned the battery cables and made sure they were tight. Is it possible to buy golf cart 6volt batteries that do not have the balls to move a slide? Any insight would be greatly appreciated
  • YES.....you guys solved it, wired correctly the slides work. Love this site!

Slide should work on shore power AND battery power.

    2 - 6 volt batteries connected in series = 12V
    2 - 6 volt batteries connected in parallel = 6V

If you have 2-6V batteries connected in parallel (a 6V system), it should be able to run some very basic and low power functions. The slide motor does not fall into that category.

^^^^ I think you are on to something.

If the OP's batteries were just recently changed, they may have accidentely hooked then up in parallel instead of series.

    Check the series wiring diagram.
  • Slide should work on shore power AND battery power.

  • I guess the first question is do all slides work off the battery, or do some require 120 volt shore power?

Next, are the two 6 volts connected in series for 12 volts or parrallel for 6 volts.

Finally, does the slide still work with Shore power?
  • Just wondering. Do 2, 6 volt batteries. Make a 12 volt system? Or just more power for a 6 volt system. Isn't that why you need a 12 volt battery to operate a 12 volt system? and a 12 volt battery won't necessarily operate a 6 volt system?

    Don't know just asking
  • You need to trace out the wiring between the slide and battery. It must have a decent ground so I would check the pos side. There should be a breaker someplace and I would check that first.
Good luck - they're very good at hiding them!
