Snowshoes = Winter Camping?

Perhaps you oughta mention finding a pair for you and make sure she doesn't give you the "AH, no...are you delusional?" look for that thought too...

Good point. I just assume she would want me to go. :)

Tip: Someone has to keep the fireplace going, the wine chilled/cocoa heated, and have a warm blanket on hand for returning snowshoers. Around here, I know who that would be, lol.

I still want a reason to pull out the PortaNobby.

I thought the snowshoes were a, ah....shoe in.

My wife wouldn't go RV'ing with me on the winter either. But she's more than happy to go to a hotel or a cabin in the woods with hot and running water.

Depending on your size and weight, you might want to get some bearpaws, or else you'll be sinking in and struggling to keep up.

I've worked in the woods much of my career in areas of deep snow. I never understood the idea of recreational snowshoeing. For me, snowshoeing was for the purpose of getting somewhere to do something when the snow was deep. The thought of doing it for fun has eluded me.

Probably the same reason I can't enjoy mac and cheese because I lived on it pretty much the entire time I was at college (it was 5 boxes for $1 on sale back then). So now, I can't bring myself to eat it! :)

DW and I have been snowshoeing for a good number of years. We got our 4 YO granddaughter some kids snowshoes and she loved going out with us!
But - if we go to the Adirondacks for a winter outing we stay in a hotel.

I know you're a long way away, but I got an invite from the good folks (Chamber of Commerce) in Rangeley Me. saying the have over 300 miles of groomed X-country trails. They also said the campgrounds are open too, so come on up.

The point is; I'm sure there must be some place in your area too. What good fun, I use to do a lot of Snowshoeing and X-country skiing, but now I can't be breathing in the cold air anymore.

We dry camped at the state park in Indiana. Electric, heated wash house and a snowshoe program.

In all honesty, most folks stayed at the park's inn. It was February and sunny, though the temp was below freezing.

We used a small electric heater to keep our 25ft. TT about 55 degrees, which was fine with outdoors activities. We would run the furnace about ten minutes in the morning for breakfast.

A couple of nights were fun and the park inn had a nice restaurant. :)
