So I picked up the 835

Thanks for all the help on the twin bed thread.

2 questions, there are 2 hoses coming out the drivers rear area and I cant really figure out what they are for? Plumbing venting or what?

How do your turn the water heater on? My last trailer had a switch..?

I'm addition, common practice on my old trailer was to turn the water pump off when not in use. And to not turn on the water heater until you turn on the pump to prevent it from burning up.

Truck campers are new to me. Went from a 48' race trailer with living quarters to an 835 and we are stoked!
  • I have an 835, if you have questions I can help or look in my manual until you get one. I will be gone this weekend though. Frank flilawsa@msn.com
  • About the manual water heater. Once in E. OR. we stopped at Wallowa State campground; paid the fee and found the spot. I backed in the space and plugged in the umbilical power cord, hooked up the water (and maybe cable), read the levels and put one plastic riser under one front wheel. We're done right? Wrong. There was a very stiff breeze coming right at the water heater compartment and it was so windy that I could not get the water heater pilot to stay on using an extended snout lighter. Tried it with the door mostly down. No dice. Jeanie came over and cupped her hands and one of mine around the device to no avail. Then I got a piece of cardboard or jacket, can't remember what to act as a windbreak and cover the space and finally we got it going enough to stay on. So the moral to the story is: always check which way the wind is blowing before you turn off the key to the truck. If I would have known, I could have stopped to light the pilot on the lee side not the windward side. Educamus abruptus.
    Enjoy the 'period of adjustment'.
    regards, as always, jefe
  • Thanks for the info!

Looks like I have a manual lighting water heater. No biggie, but I was looking for a switch haha!

I may take you up on the offer if I can't figure it out, or anything else for that matter.

You can download a manual for your camper from the Lance website. Click on "Owner Support" at the top and follow the menus.

You can also download appliance specific manuals from the mfgr websites if you want something more detail than the Lance manual provides (which isn't much BTW).

Also, I live near you. If you'd like, I'd be happy spend a little time going over things with you in person. Send me a PM with contact information if you're interested.
  • We turn the water pump on only when we're to use it, as well as the hot water heater. We turn it on about 15 minutes prior to doing dishes or showering.

Have fun with your new TC!

  • If they are little tan 3/8's" plastic hoses they are for draining the hot water tank. They each have their own valve and one may be breather. When I evacuate the camper fresh water systems I usually keep all those valves (and the main water drain valve at the pass side rear open (at least on my '98 Lance).
A couple times I failed to close the valves and could not figure out why the main fresh tank would not fill.....until I went around back and saw the water just flowing out onto the ground. In one end and out the other.
