Regardless if I'm towing or not, or if I'm in one of the cars, I always track fuel mileage, at least enough to know what "normal" is for that vehicle. If the fuel mileage drops considerably without a understandable explanation, I know something has changed that needs attention.
That said, we get 11-12 mpg towing, depending on how well traffic is flowing.
