I have Sulastic shackles on my van. They work great. However, they primarily reduce harshness. They will not make the ride "plush".
Have you tried reducing air pressure when empty yet?
Airbags alone will not soften the ride unless you also remove the lowest leaf spring.
I have driven a Dodge diesel with Kelderman air ride in the rear, and 1500-spec front coils. It rode super smooth, except the front springs were so soft it bottomed out easily.
