We have a way older camper that would be considered a starter camper as we only paid $2,700 for it. It now has a 9500 btu AC unit, changed out all lights to LEDs, and came with manual gas only water heater, stove and oven furnace. We do have coffee water pot and microwave as well as TV and satellite receiver. We have no battery, no solar but do have a Honda eu2000i generator. The generator takes care of everything just not AC and microwave simultaneously. When the generator isn't used everything 12v runs from the truck. We use Park power a lot, do fine in truck on batteries only for over night stays and only use heater to take the chill off in the morning and last thing before bed at night starting the truck and rub it for a while if staying longer that way. The generator is quiet and runs plenty long enough with the extended run tank. With kids the electric usage can go up considerably and being a wife myself the AC is a must. Our arrangement works fine for us and so far never a problem with power. Have thought about solar but with the age of the camper, the other systems already available, costs and our being tech challenged it's become a non-issue for us. If you're planning on moving up to a more well equipped camper in the somewhat near future the expense and hassles of installing solar at this time might be a waste for you. Save your money and buy one already set up for or with solar later. But then that's just our experience and we each have to make the decisions that work for each of us. That's why there are options.
