Solar Port

My new trailer has an outside plug for a 10 volt solar port. Have never seen or heard of this. What is a good brand of solar charger and how effective are they? I assume at 10 volt they would just trickle charge the battery.
  • Our Grand Design has a 10 AMP solar port. I consider it pretty much useless, if I ever go solar I'll connect the controller to the battery with adequate gauge wire.
  • Do you want to use the port for what? Storage? While camped off-grid?

160 watt panel and 10 amp controller would work fine.

Honestly if you want to go solar I recommend evaluating what you expect and putting something together based on your needs.
  • Maybe it's actually 10 amps. At 10 volts the battery would be being turned into junk. Battery charged with no load is about 12.6 volts. Many of us will discharge to about 12.2 and then recharge. Look at some of the small pwm Moringstar controllers
  • I suspect you mean 10 watt, which certainly wouldn't be anything more than a trickle charge.
