Sold AZ Lic TT, trying to reg in CA

Not sure I follow this shorthand, but do you need to file a seller's report of sale?

The buyer of TT that I sold went to Ca DMV but DMV wants info on when I bought in AZ , how much I pd, when did I bring TT into Ca. I am sure Ca is trying to get USE Tax etc from me. I know the rules state that you have to have so many months or years out before you can reg in Cal and not pay use tax or lic fees

If the TT was purchased,and registered in Arizona, California would have no record of the transaction?

And, the California DMV would not know when it was brought into the state.

I have not been there in many years but, I don't think they keep track of every vehicle that enters California. Or do they?

It seems like the issue is when YOU brought the TT into California. Didn't it just now come into California when you sold it to a California resident?

No, and what would they care? It's all very confusing.

Sounds like OP did actually have the TT in CA, otherwise he'd just say "it's never been in CA" and this post wouldn't be here.

Your from Wash State it looks like. Calif and Wash have different DMV rules. Any way they can get money out of resident of Calif they will try. The TT was just recently brought to Calif from my Winter Home in Yuma

When I bought my TT: buyer in California, seller and TT in Nevada, and the TT registered in Nevada. I simply brought the TT and "pink slip" to the CA DMV. No extra fees, no questions, no issues.

In your situation, the buyer is in California, the seller and TT are in California, but the TT registration is in Arizona. Red flag. Sounds like someone was trying to avoid California registration fees.

It's not a matter of trying to get as much out of you as possible - it's a matter of trying to keep folks from cheating the system. Your situation is a red flag, so you need to show proof that you weren't cheating the system.

If you brought the TT into California within a few months prior to the sale, they will most likely let it go. If you brought it in earlier than that, then you're probably going to pay fees.

You brought it to California the week before you sold it if I remember correctly.
